Online Tells
Is it possible to read your opponents when you can't see them? naturally the physical poker tells you may detect in live poker are out of the question when you're playing online. but there still are signs that reveal what cards the other players are holding.
On the internet, the speed with which a player acts is the most significant tell. the option to decide what to do before the action gets to you by using the "in turn"-button makes it possible to act instantly. otherwise you can wait up to 30 seconds before checking, betting, calling or raising. Some things to have in mind when you're playing online:
- If a poker player takes a long time to make a bet, you should be careful. normally this is a sign of strength. your opponent wants you to think he's holding a weak hand and is trying to lure you into calling or raising.
- If a player calls your bet immediately, he's probably holding a weak hand. he makes the quick bet to imply strength and to conceal his fragile position. his objective is to stop you from making another bet against him.
- If a player waits for a while and then checks chances are his card are not very good. generally this kind of play is an attempt to get a free card. by delaying the check your opponent wants to make you think he's holding a strong hand and he's hoping that will stop you from making a bet.
- If a player check-calls you on the flop and then bets on the turn he's generally in a weak position. in these cases you should suspect a drawing hand and that he might be semi-bluffing. the best advice in this situation, regardless of what cards you're holding, is to make a raise.
- If a player bets or raises right away on the river he's most likely holding a very strong hand. his seemingly careless play is usually an attempt to make you think he's bluffing. if you fall into his trap your rival will make you pay dearly. you also have to look out for instant bets or raises on the turn.
- If a player in late position immediately checks (using the "in turn"-button), his cards are probably weak. he might be playing at several tables at once and is hoping to save time in this way.Playing multiple tables won't be a problem if you are using a odds calculator.
